Monster Pit is not a game of skill! It includes tableau building, dice rolling and hand management. Monster Pit marks the beginning of a new dungeon crawling experience, with this first installment being a fully cooperative, fantasy adventure game set in the world of Catacombs. During the game, loyal Captains must rally their forces to defend the Citadel against the emerging threat of a creature from the deep. Think of Gandalf rallying the forces of Minas Tirith in “The Return of the King.”
This isn't a tower defense game, but Monster Pit combines several mechanics, including dice choosing (there are custom dice and rolls can be reduced), tableau building (the player boards are oversized to organize the different cards), and worker placement (which concerns the different buildings your Captain will visit).
Your Captain's tableau will include soldiers, wizards, heroes, mounts, and Wyverns. Some of these characters are for offensive purposes (Monster attacks, etc.) and some are for defensive purposes (building up your resources, including your dice pool). During the game, the player will also complete quests for the King, purchase items in the Town Hall, ride a Mount, fight creatures in the streets of the Citadel, upgrade their Captain in the Armory, visit the Dwarf's Cave for gold, and find useful trinkets in the fountain.
The game is perfect for the solo player (a solo player only needs to control one Captain), has fully cooperative multiplayer against the Monster, one against one (one player controls the Captain, the other player controls the Monster) or single player (who controls the Monster) against up to four Captains. All play modes include long or short variants.
There are five monsters included in the game (Dragon, Bewitched, Behemoth, Vampire Queen and Orc Warmaster) that both have "A" and "B" sides for more challenge and variety.
