Western Empires is not a war game, as it may seem at first glance. Yes, wars happen, but it is rather a game about history, culture, trade, development and... calamities. Players develop their own unique civilization in the fields of arts, crafts, science, civics and religion. Each player starts their civilization with one population token in 8000 BC, but it grows and grows over time and eventually cities can be built. Cities bring wealth and fortune, of course, but also... major problems such as epidemics, famine, earthquakes, pirate attacks and civil unrest. These riches and problems are expressed in trading cards. The more cities, the more cards a player receives. Trading is the basis of the game. A truly social experience, where all players trade simultaneously with each other for a limited time. If you end up with a problem card... then you have to suffer these problems. Build walls, give your citizens art, music and architecture. Developing religion, democracy, improving science... 51 different advancements can be developed in five different categories. Maybe you can even construct a wonder of the world, or spread your people across the map to gain cultural dominance. The player who best manages to cooperate, trade or fight for territory, defend his people against nature or enemies such as barbarian hordes and survive the test of time will ultimately win the game after 12 hours.

In Excavation Earth, you lead one of these races of alien explorers on their quest to unearth rare human artifacts and curate and sell the ultimate art collection. Excavation Earth is divided into three rounds, each starting with the drafting of a hand of multi-purpose cards used to perform actions. The artifacts you dig up can either be sold to the bazaars located on one of the alien ships that have landed on Earth, or added to a collection to be sold as a cohesive art collection to museums back home. Excavation Earth ends after three rounds and the player who earns the most money during the game wins.

Dark Ages is a historically based game where you will build a civilization with an innovative action selection mechanism. As long as your action tokens remain on the board, you may be able to get secondary bonus actions when you or another player repeats the action. While Dark Ages features objectives commonly found in 4X games - for example, they encourage you to explore nearby regions, expand your territory, exploit resources, and wipe out your opponents - it does so with different mechanics that let you normally seen earlier in Eurogames. Collect resources from lands you control and use them to build your cities and fortifications. Some buildings offer you different ways to gain important benefits, while others increase your military strength or simply score victory points. As you expand your territory, claim noble titles, acquire new technologies and train your military units. Each region and leader offers asymmetrical choices with their unique abilities. Dark Ages actually consists of two games: Western Europe (subtitled Heritage of Charlemagne) and Central Europe (subtitled The Holy Roman Empire). While both versions have identical gameplay, each focuses on a specific part of Europe during the Dark Ages (western and central respectively). As a result, the game board cards differ between the two versions, as do the countries in which players compete for control and leaders of those countries. By combining both versions you can expand the map into an epic battle for five or more players! Each game box is filled with finely sculpted miniatures of towns, forts, farms and other buildings. The different types of troops - infantry, archers and cavalry - are represented by unique miniatures. The solo mode for Dark Ages was designed by Dávid Turczi.
