In El Grande you try to achieve the highest score within 9 rounds and after 3 points. Each player starts with his Grande and a few Caballeros in a region of Spain. The King is also located in a region. Each round, each player plays 1 power card from their hand, which determines 2 things: first, the order in which the players can choose action cards from the supply, and second, how many new caballeros they can add to their supply. When it is your turn next, you choose one of the still available action cards. Such a card shows an action that you may perform and a number of caballeros that you may move from your supply to the game board. However, you should always place new caballeros in areas adjacent to the King. If you don't want that, you can also throw new caballeros into the Castillo. After every 3 rounds (and sometimes also as a result of an action card) a scoring takes place. The players who have the most caballeros in a region receive points for this. The King and Grandes can give bonus points. The Castillo is its own region and after counting, the caballeros move to another region of their choice, which can completely change the situation on the game board. If you have the most points after 9 rounds, you win the game!
This edition of El Grande contains 2 mini expansions and extra action cards to make the game even more variable and exciting. With the cards from these mini-expansions there are more tactical possibilities with the King or the players can change the value of their power card!
